About the Artist
Mariel Arata is a lifelong creative whose path weaves together art, education, and international affairs. She studied Art Education at the University of Evansville and earned a Master’s in International Affairs from the University of Kentucky. Much of her career has been in public service and program management, where she developed expertise in guiding people, building community, and creating equitable spaces for growth. These experiences continue to inform her art and workshops, where connection and creativity are central.
At the heart of Mariel’s paintings is the human experience of a place, person, or moment—what it feels like to truly be there, to share space with another, or to witness the beauty of an ordinary day. Her work is deeply influenced by her own journey with chronic illness, which has taught her to embrace stillness, notice fleeting glimmers of joy, and create from a place of empathy. Through painting and teaching, Mariel invites others into that same space of self-acceptance, wellbeing, and creative play.
