What to Expect

Spend an afternoon slowing down and exploring the art of oil painting in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Together, we'll create a simple cloudscape while learning foundational painting techniques, enjoying conversation, and discovering the joy of making something with our own hands—no prior experience required.

Venue rental is not included in atelier pricing and is the responsibility of the client. Ateliers within two hours of Tehachapi, CA are offered at the listed rates; additional travel can be arranged and may affect pricing.

Example Schedule

  • Enjoy coffee and snacks while getting to know fellow participants and learning what to expect during the atelier.

  • Learn the basics of oil painting, including materials, mediums, and foundational techniques.

  • Prepare your canvas with an underpainting layer and discover how it influences the final artwork.

  • Using a cloudscape reference, you'll plan your painting and establish a strong composition.

  • Break the scene into simple light, mid-tone, and dark value shapes to create the foundation of the painting.

  • Build color, atmosphere, and form through guided instruction and hands-on painting.

  • Take time to relax, enjoy refreshments, and connect with other participants.

  • Add finishing touches, highlights, and details before preparing your painting to take home.
